Our story

35 years of innovation in DC rectifiers

Micronics Systems has been designing, assembling and maintaining DC rectifiers, regulated power supplies and generators for industry in France since 1989. Thirty-five years on, the company is still based in Isère, in Villette-d'Anthon, and still builds its equipment on site.

It all begins in 1989 in Chavanoz, with a simple conviction: the quality of a surface treatment or of a laboratory test depends first of all on the quality of the current fed into it. Two years later, Micronics brings the first French 1,000 A – 12 V switch-mode rectifier to market. Switch-mode changes everything: for the same power, the unit becomes more compact, more stable and more economical than a conventional solution.

The following decades broaden the business without changing it. Regulated laboratory power supplies in 2000, 100 kW generators and the Powerswitch series in 2004, converters and inverters, then scalable modular cabinets. In parallel, the company builds what sets it apart today: an in-house engineering department that sizes equipment from the customer's process, a workshop where every unit is tested before dispatch, and a department dedicated to repair and maintenance.

Today, MicronX rectifiers power surface finishing lines — zinc plating, hard chrome plating, anodising, precious metals — and test benches in aerospace, automotive, nuclear and research. Up to 6,000 A, always designed and assembled in Villette-d'Anthon.

The timeline

The key milestones, from 1989 to today

1989 — 1999

The foundations

A small Isère company betting on the switch-mode rectifier, at a time when industrial power was still mostly controlled another way.

1989

Micronics Systems is founded

The company is born in Chavanoz, Isère, around one idea: designing industrial power sources in France.

1991

First French switch-mode rectifier

Launch of the first 1,000 A – 12 V switch-mode rectifier on the French market: more compact, more accurate and more economical than a conventional solution.

1993

The engineering department grows

R&D becomes the engine of the company: it is what still allows us today to answer the specification rather than the catalogue.

1997

Opening up to export

An office opens in the Paris region and the first international business develops, which will grow to as much as 30 % of turnover.

2000 — 2009

Industrialisation

The catalogue expands from the surface finishing rectifier to the regulated laboratory power supply, and the production facility follows.

2000

Regulated power supply department

Creation of the department dedicated to regulated power supplies, which will give rise to the Microlab range.

2001

Move to Villette-d'Anthon

The company moves to its current site, 18 rue des Émeraudes, 25 minutes from Lyon.

2004

100 kW generator

First 100 kW switch-mode generator (5,000 A – 20 V) and launch of the Powerswitch series, designed for high power in cabinet format.

2007

Converters and inverters

Extension to DC-AC and DC-DC converters with the Powerlab series.

2009

A broader product range

Inverters, converters, sources and loads: Micronics now covers most controlled-power requirements.

2010 — 2019

Building the structure

A larger production facility, a dedicated after-sales department and a test laboratory: the company organises itself to support customers over the whole life of the machines.

2010

2,500 m² production hall

Expansion of the production facility in Villette-d'Anthon: wiring, assembly and testing all stay in-house.

2012

A structured sales force

The company builds a technical sales team, able to size equipment together with the customer.

2014

VTwin technology

First developments of Twin technology, which allows two sources to work together.

2016

Creation of the subsidiary

Micronics sets up a subsidiary to support its growth.

2017

Micronics Service

Launch of the service business: workshop repair, on-site intervention, spare parts and preventive maintenance.

2018

Marketing and business development

Marketing and sales activities are reinforced, with a stronger presence at industrial trade shows.

2018

TechLab

Opening of a laboratory dedicated to advanced surface finishing technologies, to test processes together with customers.

2019

Modular cabinets

A major step forward on modular cabinets: a scalable architecture, from 16U to 43U.

2020 — today

The age of digital control

The rectifier is no longer just a current source: it is a connected, programmable, supervised piece of equipment.

2020

Twin Full Duplex

Twin technology reaches its full duplex form.

2022

Human-machine interface

Touchscreen HMIs become standard: setpoints, ramps, ampere-hour counters, polarity reversal cycles and remote control.

What we do

Designer, manufacturer and guarantor of its equipment

Three roles Micronics has taken on from the start, and has never outsourced.

Designer

An in-house engineering department designs every solution from the specification: voltage, current, cycles, control mode, installation constraints. Bespoke is not an option, it is the default way of working.

Engineering departmentBespokeSizing

Manufacturer

Wiring, assembly and testing are carried out in our workshops in Villette-d'Anthon. 100 % of units are tested before dispatch — that is the step that guarantees a rectifier will hold its values on the day it is commissioned.

Command of the product

Because we designed them, we know how to repair them. Preventive maintenance, workshop repair, spare parts and on-site service extend the life of the equipment well beyond the warranty.
