A motor test bench reproduces in the workshop the real operating conditions of a rotating machine: repeated starts, load build-ups, steady-state running, emergency stops. It measures torque, speed, current drawn, temperature rise and overall efficiency.
These tests apply to DC motors as well as to geared motor assemblies, servomotors, actuators and qualification benches for electromechanical sub-assemblies. The difficulty is always the same: to compare two measurements, the energy source has to be identical from one test to the next.
That is where the power supply becomes an instrument in its own right. A drifting operating point, excessive ripple or a voltage dip at start-up show up immediately in the curves — and make the results hard to use.
The motor is coupled to the bench and connected to the power source.
Voltage and current are applied gradually, following the test profile.
Torque, speed, current and temperatures are recorded in steady state.
The cycle is repeated to validate long-term behaviour.
A motor test is only worth anything if it is repeatable. The rectifier has to absorb the inrush current at start-up without collapsing, then hold a perfectly stable operating point throughout the measurement phase.
Micronics solutions bring that stability: voltage or current regulation, fine setpoint adjustment, and ramp-ups that avoid mechanical jolts. The control options (analogue 0-10 V, 4-20 mA or digital link) allow the power supply to be built straight into the bench PLC and a test profile to be replayed identically.
